Georgia schools could get $1 billion in stimulus package

January 29, 2009

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia's public schools stand to receive more than $1 billion in additional federal money as part of President Barack Obama's stimulus bill, approved Wednesday by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The funding would go toward construction and to help students with disabilities and those who come from poor families. Cobb County Schools would receive $50.1 million over two years, and Marietta Schools would receive $8.6 million, the AJC reported. At a time when Gov. Perdue is proposing massive state budget cuts to public education, this stimulus money would be a much-needed shot in the arm.

Please contact Sen. Saxby Chambliss at 202-224-3521 and Sen. Johnny Isakson at 202-224-3643 and ask them to support the economic stimulus bill in the U.S. Senate to support Georgia's schools.
